Creative Directorship – JazzSteps Live in the Libraries

Very pleased to announce my role as Creative Director of JazzSteps Live in the Libraries.

JazzSteps promotes, supports and develops jazz in and around Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, working in association with a range of organisations and across a range of venues. With a focus on contemporary jazz, our varied and inventive programming spans jazz genres and is designed to engage a diverse audience as well as our loyal followers. We attract national and international performers on a regular basis as well as showcasing the talents of local and regional artists.

The programme of taking jazz to audiences across the county using Libraries that double as community hubs has been developed over many years and I joined the team at the end of 2017. Initially in association with Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC), as of 2016, it has been with Inspire, a “Community Benefit Society which delivers a range of cultural, art, library and learning services” that is funded by NCC, The Arts Council of England, Education and Skills funding agencies. There are four library venues in 2018 at which we run four nights of consecutive gigs, or mini-tour, for the month’s act: Worksop, Southwell, West Bridgford and Beeston.

I am currently managing the transition between the previous post-holder’s bookings for 2018 while planning and booking future activities in 2019. The JazzSteps Live in the Libraries is an ambitious programme. Our audience attendance for these events is consistently high, reflecting the hard work of the whole team, and showing the value our project has within the communities; enriching lives through music.
